Elements and Performance Criteria

1. Prepare materials, tools and equipment for nursery work
   • Identify required materials, tools and equipment according to lists provided and supervisor's instructions
   • Conduct checks on all materials, tools and equipment and tell supervisor if there are insufficient or faulty items
   • Use correct manual handling techniques when loading and unloading materials
   • Use suitable personal protective equipment (PPE) selected as directed by supervisor and ensure correct fit
   • Tell supervisor if any risks are identified
2. Undertake nursery work as directed
   • Follow instructions and directions provided by supervisor and ask for clarification when necessary
   • Communicate with other staff and clients in a professional manner
   • Handle and dispose of materials
   • Tell supervisor of there are problems or difficulties in completing work to required standards or timelines
3. Store and stockpile materials
   • Store plant debris and waste material produced during nursery activities as instructed
   • Prepare and process plant debris and waste materials in an appropriate and safe manner as instructed
   • Stockpile surplus materials for removal as instructed
   • Maintain a clean and safe work site while completing nursery work
4. Clean up on completion of nursery work
   • Store plants and materials as instructed
   • Clean, maintain and store tools and equipment
   • Tell supervisor of work outcomes

Performance Evidence

The candidate must be assessed on their ability to integrate and apply the performance requirements of this unit in a workplace setting. Performance must be demonstrated consistently over time and in a suitable range of contexts.
